Reading and Writing Following the Indiana Academic Standards, reading includes - fiction and nonfiction texts. Writing will include narrative, informational, and opinion writing. PTS schools use Benchmark Workshop materials. These materials include Reader’s Workshop, Phonics and Word Study Workshop, and Writer’s Workshop.
Math Following the Indiana Academic Standards, we will be spending time each day working on mathematics. One of our primary goals is to build number sense. Number sense is the ability to play with numbers. Students can visualize problem solving, perform calculations quickly, and are flexible in their mathematical strategies. Students who have strong number sense solve problems in more than one way and check that their answers make sense. We will be using the Reveal Math. Students will also be using their website for support and assessments.
Science and Social Studies Using the Indiana Academic Standards as a guide, learning to explore the world, ask questions, make connections, and become global citizens will be embedded in our day. Indiana social studies and science standards are BIG questions that we will explore throughout the year. We will explore, learn, and discover how to protect our environment.
Social and Emotional Learning Working to become emotionally-literate individuals is an important part of second grade. We will explore different components of emotional learning with our School Advisor, Mrs. Felten, each week. Students will then practice their new learning in different ways.
